Get Responsible.... Or Just Get Real

I came across a video that was slated for the holidays about how to tell if a game is age appropriate, and I had to laugh. It seems that people are finally picking up on the fact that ratings are generic, but whats a parent to do?
Making life harder for everyone else, costing the game industry 1000's of dollars per title to get rated and making it illegal to buy M games if you're under 18 didn't do the trick.
Apparently, PARENTING didn't occur to them as an option. Some people in the video mentioned that a game might be viewed by a parent, but none of the parents actually said they watch them. As for friends and family members if you're buying a game for a kid shouldn't YOU know what you're buying.
Honestly, thats like saying its OK to buy kids porn because their parents might watch it. And while we're on the issue, WHY IS THIS NEWS?????
Personal and parental responsibility used to be just that. Now every soft core reporter looking to fill 5 min of air space (because it's not like we need to do anything about the state of the planet, or world hunger or health insurance) goes on about video games, like it's MY job to protect other peoples kids.
When I was a kid, my mom didn't expect acts of congress and strangers to tell me the difference between right and wrong, She did it herself! More parents could take a lesson.
The video that got me riled up:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against rating systems in general. I'm just against rating as a replacement for parental judgment.
